Baskets of Cambodia! was started in 1996 and quickly became the first major overseas exporter of baskets in Cambodia. In 1997 there was a coup and a change of power in government. Throughout all this time, Baskets of Cambodia! not only operated but also expanded to it’s current level – employing over 400 artisans throughout Cambodia.
Currently Baskets of Cambodia! supplies some of the world’s finest baskets in any price range. We design, manufacture, and distribute to North America, Central America and Europe.
Instead of putting undue pressure on prices and seeing quality suffer, Baskets of Cambodia! has always provided an upward bias in favor of our workers in Cambodia. This is perhaps the primary reason our baskets are as extraordinary as they are.
Our entire business model is progressive as well. We provide a health-care safety net program, yearly dividends, and schooling options in varying degrees depending on the level of participation of our makers in Cambodia. All these things contribute to produce a quality product that reflects the satisfaction and the growing esteem of our talented makers.
This year we have continued to grow with more and more new products - Our 'Tatami Style' mats and place mats are now available in over 60 colors, styles, and sizes. Our most popular item is an individual size ‘yoga mat’ that measures 34” x 72” and comes complete with ties and a carrying sling. The patterns vary from a natural, plaid, to numerous designer styles. These are all hand-woven - two workers operating one loom.
Our 'Tatami Style' purses have also been brisk sellers this season. Check out the new form fitting and sleek 'Avi' style. We are training makers as fast as we can to make this very difficult shape and form the proper contour from our tatami fabric. We also have 3 new natural 'tatami' medium style purses.
All our new purses can be seen here or at our next two trade shows in Seattle and San Francisco.
